DWARF is a general-purpose debugging information format. It was designed with [[ELF]], but is independent of that object format. DWARF has superseded the [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stabs stub] on modern Linux, much as ELF has replaced [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A.out <tt>a.out</tt>].
