Use <tt>-f</tt> to force refreshings, and <tt>-i</tt> to install missing files; <tt>autoreconf -fi</tt> is thus a useful recipe for source trees (distributing anything but autotools inputs, including <tt>configure</tt> scripts, makes assumptions regarding the host autotools installation).
