Lenovo purchased IBM's personal computing division in 2005, along with the ThinkPad line. ThinkPads are my default go-to laptops; they are no-nonsense, affordable, powerful, customizable machines, tend to be well-supported by the Linux kernel, and come in the correct color.

Applying UEFI updates

  • `fwupmgr` supports many Thinkpads, but it generally lags the releases by a month or more.
  • Download the installation ISO, and convert it to a USB-bootable image with `geteltorito`: `geteltorito INPUT > OUTPUT && dd if=INPUT of=DEV`
